Dr. Evelyn Lavizzo - Executive Director

Ms. Evelyn Lavizzo, PhD accepted the position as the fifth executive director of the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home in October 2009, following the retirement of Ms. Ollivette Allison. As Executive Director, Dr. Lavizzo oversees all aspects of program development, fundraising, social services, grounds and facility management, and government partnerships.  Dr. Lavizzo is well versed in the complex nature of county, state and federal foster care systems, policies and philosophies.  As the children in foster care have presented increased behavioral and emotional challenges, Dr. Lavizzo has successful partnered with state and local government agencies to provide the highest quality care for the youth. Dr. Lavizzo has developed comprehensive programming to meet the children’s psychology, physical and emotional needs. Dr. Lavizzo holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a M.A. in Psychology from Georgia State University, MEd from University of Pennsylvania, MSW from Atlanta University and a B.S. in Psychology from University of Washington. 

Dr. Lavizzo is a results-oriented Executive Director with expertise in advancing the application of new methodologies, dissemination of research, evaluation learning, program management and evaluation, grant monitoring, performance measurement, developing human capital and implementing outcome-oriented initiatives for vulnerable children, youth and families. Key competencies include administration, program management and evaluation, establishing and executing strategic direction, grant monitoring, and performance measurement.  She has demonstrated outcome-focused program management, program development and excellence in residential interventions that address trauma and secondary traumatic stress.  Dr. Lavizzo is known for innovative program development and management, implementation of new processes, implementing policies and procedures as well as advancing innovative evidence-informed and evidence-based programs and services while addressing emerging issues. Dr. Lavizzo has a strong passion for child welfare, nonprofit administration, social change, building effective partnerships and collaborations with youth, families, communities, and other child and family serving systems, and developing transformative programs for children and youth. 

Eloise Mitchell, Director of Clinical Programs

Ms. Eloise Mitchell is the CSPH’s current Director of Clinical Programs.  Ms. Mitchell will provide direct supervision to the Independent Living Program Manager. Ms. Mitchell has eighteen years of experience of delivering the highest quality of care to vulnerable youth and families.  Ms. Mitchell held the position of Independent Living Coordinator for DFCS for ten years prior to joining the staff of CSPH in July 2013.  She is well versed in the methods and outcome expectations to establish permanency and self-sufficiency through caring leadership and a nurturing philosophy.  Ms. Mitchell is well versed in the complex nature of county, state and federal foster care systems, policies and philosophies. During her tenure at CSPH, Ms. Mitchell has implemented programs and policies that increases the positive outcomes of the youth.  By working with the youth of all ages, Ms. Mitchell has designed a program that is flexible and meets the needs of the youth.   Ms. Mitchell has directed responsibility and oversight for the delivery of all the proposed services.   

Sherry Denise Kimbro, Director of Business Development

Sherry Denise Brumadge Kimbro was born in Atlanta, Georgia.  An honor graduate of Booker T. Washington H.S., as well as an honor graduate of Atlanta Metro Junior College, with an Associate Degree in Sociology.  She graduated from the University of St. Leo with honors with a B.A. Degree in Business Administration.

Denise, worked in management for Sears Credit for over 25 years, prior to retiring in 1999.  Currently, Denise serves as the Director of Business Services for Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, where she has been employed since 1999. 

Her motto is “integrity above all else”.  She states “one of the strengths that we at Carrie Steele-Pitts Home treasure is our integrity.  Therefore, above all else we must maintain a standard that allows for the continued support and trust from our community of donors; in order for us to continue our great legacy that our founders first begin in this Home.”

She believes wholeheartedly in the work we are doing here at the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, that our children truly deserve the very best we can provide for them!
