Our Mission
Embodied in a legacy of care since 1888, Carrie Steele-Pitts Home (CSPH) stands as a steadfast sanctuary, devoted to nurturing the comprehensive growth of vulnerable youth. As a nonprofit trailblazer, CSPH champions community-oriented child welfare services, prioritizing education, health, and wellness. Envisioning a state-of-the-art facility on the horizon, we persist in our commitment to youth development through enriching life skill workshops and active community involvement, embracing the evolving needs of the modern era.
Empowering Lives: Our Enduring Commitment
Dedicated to the holistic well-being of every child, Carrie Steele-Pitts Home (CSPH) has a longstanding commitment to positively impact children's lives. Our historical success in crafting excellent programs and nurturing a highly qualified staff underscores our dedication. Recognizing the evolving needs of children, we have consistently strived to enhance resources and provide a safe, constructive environment where learning thrives. Although we once boasted a Life Learning Center on our campus, we currently operate without such facilities. The center, designed to cater to the diverse needs of at-risk youth, created a space for supervised talent development and character-shaping activities. As we transition toward a new facility and location, we carry the spirit of our past endeavors, aspiring to continue our mission of empowering children for a brighter future.
Building Futures: A New Chapter for Carrie Steele–Pitts Home
For over a century, the Carrie Steele–Pitts Home has been Atlanta's refuge for vulnerable children, offering support and love to those in need. Though we no longer operate the Life Learning Center on our former campus, we are fervently working towards a new facility to nurture academic, athletic, and spiritual growth. Our commitment to building a legacy of empowerment continues, shaping resilient futures. As we envision this new chapter, support for Cottage and Administrative Building Renovations, Donations to the Operating Budget, and Life Learning Center Programs is crucial for our mission ahead.
Carrie Steele–Pitts Home has a rich history of nurturing children facing family challenges, embodying a commitment to their holistic development. While not currently operating a campus or Life Learning Center, our programs envision a future facility in a new location. During the average 2 ½ year stay, children experience dedicated support, emphasizing family reunification.
Recognizing the complex emotional needs of children dealing with difficult family situations, we emphasize their healing and growth. While no longer having on-site schooling, we encourage children's integration into the larger community by attending local public schools, achieving an impressive attendance rate of less than 2% absenteeism during the 1998-99 academic year. Despite the absence of our former Life Learning Center, we persist in fostering positive self-image and values. As we transition, our commitment to a safe, nurturing environment endures, contributing to a resilient community and securing the future through responsible financial management and strategic upgrades.
Nurturing a Legacy of Care and Growth
In its commitment to the well-being of every child, Carrie Steele–Pitts Home (CSPH) transcends basic necessities to create a genuine home, even as we transition to a new facility. Though our former 26-acre campus is no longer operational, the spirit of our dedication endures. Our family-like cottages, which once provided solace for approximately 20 children, at any given time, reflected a commitment to nurturing discipline and fostering a sense of community. While our early focus addressed the needs of abandoned or orphaned children, today, we navigate complex issues such as abuse and neglect. Despite the absence of our previous campus, our dedication to excellence, high staff-to-child ratios, and a supportive environment persists. Our mission remains unwavering: ensuring every child feels valued, building trust, fostering self-confidence, and providing a source of strength and love. As we move towards a new location, our vision for a brighter future remains resolute.
