CSPH Health and Wellness
AT CSPH, to truly Give Youth A Chance, we believe that the six key elements of Youth Health and Wellness are interwoven and must be individually and collectively developed!
Physical
Physical Health is defined by what has, can and will affect your physical body such as genetics, diet, exercise, illness, disability, environment (including housing, work/school conditions and pollution), economic status, physical accessibility to resources and medical supplies and any other factors that can damage or improve your physical body.
Social
Social Health includes all forms of social interactions with two or more individuals including family, friends, colleagues, classmates, strangers, and media (including social media). Social health includes the influence of other individuals or groups, either directly or indirectly.
Cognitive
Cognitive Health include all factors which combine to create an individuals intelligence. These factors are necessary to develop and/or maintain independence, including the ability to learn, memory, intuition, judgement, language, reason, concentration, planning and organization.
Spiritual
Spiritual Health is the most abstract and difficult to define. It often includes the belief of unity with a greater force, belief in a supreme being and/or a guiding sense of meaning and often includes higher values of hope, purpose, faith and peace. It goes far beyond religion or prayer.
Cultural
Cultural Health is a combination of social and physical health as it is influenced by our community perceptions, laws, beliefs, attitudes, behaviors, values, and knowledge of history. Cultural Health has the potential to strongly influence emotional, social and physical health, based on our early childhood education and lifelong experiences.
Emotional
Emotional Health requires the appropriate emotion to be experienced according to the event that has occurred i.e. sadness/grief with loss or fear when in danger. It includes the ability to regulate and demonstrate feelings in a safe/healthy manner that will not result in harm to self or others. Trauma Informed Care is the foundation of the CSPH emotional health model.
